RMIT CAREERHUB – TERMS AND CONDITIONS
These terms and conditions (‘Terms’) govern all Advertisers (defined as “Advertiser”, “you’ and “your” that have:
- have placed an advertisement on the RMIT Career Hub online site (the ‘Online Site”);
- have accessed the Online Site via the RMIT web page;
- have been utilised any features of the Online Site directly or via a third party.
Your access to and use of the information, materials and services provided on the Online Site is conditional upon Your acceptance and compliance with the Terms.
The Online Site is owned and operated by Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (“RMIT”).
Your continued use of this Online Site will be deemed as acceptance of these Terms by You..
Variation of Terms
1. RMIT may vary these Terms at any time. If RMIT varies these Terms it will provide notice by publishing the varied Terms on the Online Site.
2. You accept that by doing this, RMIT has provided you with sufficient notice of the variation to its Terms.
Limitation of Liability and Disclaimer
3. RMIT will not be liable to You for any loss or damage which may be suffered or incurred or which may arise as a consequence of your access, use of the Online Site or persons engaged by you via the Online Site.
4. Advertisers agree to indemnify RMIT against all liabilities, costs, action and charges incurred by RMIT as a result of Your use of or access to the Online Site.
5. RMIT does not recommend or endorse any person, organisation or service provider featured on the Online Site.
6. RMIT does not warrant that the Online Site and/or its content will be:
a. Accessible and available at all times
b. Free of interruptions
c. Without error
d. Free of infection, viruses, worms, trojan horses or other code that manifest contaminating or destructive properties.
7. RMIT does not accept any responsibility or liability for any errors in your Advertisement and you must check Your Advertisement for errors as soon as they are placed on the RMIT Online Site.
8. The RMIT Online Site is a platform by which students can access employment opportunities. RMIT does not vet, nor is responsible for vetting students/candidates or the representations made by students or persons in his or her communications via the Online Site.
9. You warrant and agree that:
a. Advertisements do not breach the intellectual property of any third party;
b. Files containing the Advertisement delivered to RMIT will be free of infection or viruses
c. You will not use the Online Site for illegal purposes
d. You will not use the Online Site to upload, download transact or store or make available data that is unlawful, harassing, threatening, harmful, tortious, defamatory, abusive, obscene discriminatory or objectionable or damaging to RMIT, the RMIT Online Site users or persons generally.
10. You indemnify and will keep indemnified RMIT against all claims actions suits costs, damages and expenses incurred by RMIT in connection with:
a. Any breach of these Terms by You;
b. Any negligent act or omission by You
c. The listing or proposed listing of any Advertisement by you on the Online Site.
d. An actual or alleged breach by You of any law, legislation or subordinate legislation or codes of conduct which occurs as a consequence of Your Advertisement appearing on the On line Site.
11. You agree at all times to deal with any information provided by RMIT or accessed from the Online Site in a manner which abides by applicable laws of Victoria and the Commonwealth of Australia (including without limitation privacy and copyright laws).
Misuse of Candidate Data
12. Any personal information within the meaning of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) of any candidate that You obtain through Your use of the Online Site must only be used by You in relation to Your genuine employment and/or recruitment activities.
13. You must not disclose any personal information you obtain from your access to the Online Site to any other person or organisation.
14. RMIT reserves the right to immediately terminate or suspend your account if you breach these terms and to reserves the right to report any potential contraventions to the relevant regulatory authorities.
15. Your access to the Online Site will be via a secure login username and password(the ‘password’) issued to you by RMIT. You are responsible for:
a. Providing RMIT with the identity and contact details of individuals authorised to access the Online Site on your behalf;
b. Ensuring that any password provided to authorised users is kept secure and confidential.
16. RMIT provides no warranty to You that the services available through the Online Site will be uninterrupted or error free. Except where RMIT is unable to exclude its liability by legislation, RMIT will not be liable in any way to You for any loss or damage however it arises in connection with your access and use of the Online Site.
17. RMIT seeks the right to terminate your agreement with RMIT if you post any advertisement or use any feature of the Online Site in any way which is in breach of these Terms. RMIT also reserves the right to at its absolute discretion to reject or remove any advertisement for the Online Site for any reason.
18. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria. You irrevocably and unconditionally submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of Victoria.
Advertiser and job requirements
19. You must ensure that all Advertisements posted on the Online Site complies with all applicable legislation, including anti-discrimination, privacy, consumer protection and advertising codes of conduct.
CareerHub is a self-service online system. Employers, agencies or third party recruiters are expected to register and lodge their own jobs. It is the priority of RMIT Careers and Employability to protect the best interest and wellbeing of our students and staff at all times by consistently monitoring job advertisements to ensure they comply with the guidelines below.
It is the responsibility of the employer, agency or third party recruiter (as the case may be) to ensure that any advertisements submitted by them comply with these terms and guidelines. Please ensure the job advertisement includes the required information which is detailed below. If the position you lodge does not meet all the requirements and cannot be advertised, an RMIT staff member will contact you with further details.
All registrations and employment vacancies submitted to CareerHub need to be reviewed and approved by RMIT Careers and Employability. Processing occurs Monday to Friday, between 9.00am and 5.00pm. We aim to process requests within two working days, except for University holidays, national and Victorian public holidays.
Employment vacancies must include the remuneration value, as further outlined below. If it is your company's policy not to disclose pay rates in job advertisements, please email the remuneration details to email@example.com and we will approve the advertisement with this information hidden. Positions without these details will not be approved.
RMIT Careers and Employability reserves the right to withdraw or refuse any advertisement from CareerHub for any reason without notice and to alter any aspect of advertisements approved for publishing. In particular, this right may be exercised where, in our opinion, any of the following has occurred:
- RMIT Careers and Employability has a reasonable concern regarding non-compliance with any of these Terms and Conditions and guidelines, or any applicable law or regulation.
- Misleading or incorrect information has been provided by the individual or organisation.
- A complaint has been received about the individual or organisation that placed the advertisement.
- The job opportunity or language used in the advertisement is considered to be inappropriate.
- The advertisement may, is likely to, or does, damage or lower the reputation or standing of RMIT Career Development and Employment.
Requirements for organisations
RMIT Careers and Employability requires all organisations to provide the following information when lodging a vacancy on CareerHub:
- name of the organisation or individual advertising the job
- full postal and/or physical address
- full name, email address and phone number of at least one contact person
- an adequate description of the type of organisation and/or the type of service provided
- an Australian Business Number (ABN) for Australian based employers except those advertising work for private households
- third party recruiters should register under their own organisation name (rather than a client name) and select agent for employer when registering
- an adequate description of the duties and nature of the work being offered
Requirements for private householders
RMIT Careers and Employability requires all private householders registering as individuals to provide the following information:
- first name and last name
- email address
- at least one telephone number i.e. mobile or landline
- physical address
- an appropriate hourly rate of pay must be displayed on the job advertisement
Guidelines for job advertisements
Please review the following terms and guidelines prior to placing your advertisement. In placing your advertisement on CareerHub, you are deemed to have accepted these terms and guidelines. For casual and part-time jobs, an appropriate hourly rate of pay or the name of a relevant award or job classification must be displayed on the job advertisement.
An adequate description of the duties and nature of the work being offered must be provided. This should include:
- Job title
- Skills required
- Experience required
- Faculties targeted
- Hours offered
Disclosing pay rates
A numeric figure or range must be provided for all employment vacancies.
If it is a junior position, the adult wage must be displayed and the advertisement must indicate that junior rates apply.
If a job advertisement is listed as paying the applicable 'award' rates, we require the individual or organisation to provide us with the relevant award name or alternatively, a numeric figure or range, as outlined above.
While RMIT Careers and Employability takes no responsibility for assessing or checking pay rates on job advertisements, if we believe a rate of pay may not comply with legislation or an applicable industrial instrument, the individual or organisation may be required to provide us with the award code relevant to the advertised position.
In the event that an individual or organisation has a policy against publishing pay rates on job advertisements, the hourly rate/range of pay must be provided to us in writing at email@example.com. This information will be retained for our records, but will not be published as part of the job advertisement.
Please refer to Fair Work Ombudsman for more information on awards, including award codes and correct rates of pay.
RMIT only accepts voluntary positions offered by non-profit organisations provided they meet the following:
The opportunity adheres to the Definition and Principles of Volunteering outlined by Volunteering Australia
Copies of Certificate of Currency insurance documents that specifically cover volunteers are emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org including:
- Personal Accident
- Public Liability
- General and Products Liability
- As well as position dependent insurance (e.g. event insurance, professional indemnity)
The organisation offering the position must have an ABN registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission OR the non-profit clauses of the organisation's constitution are emailed to email@example.com
All new volunteers must be provided with adequate and appropriate induction, training, support and supervision.
All volunteer opportunities must be less than 16 hours per week, not replacing paid workers, nor constituting a threat to the job security of paid workers.
Work experience and internships
The Fair Work Act 2009 (the Act) requires that students are paid at least the minimum wage for work experience undertaken within organisations unless the work is undertaken as a vocational placement or is classified as voluntary work.
For a placement to meet the requirements of a ‘vocational placement’, it must be undertaken as part of a subject or a course or alternatively, be classified as voluntary work. The consequences of an unpaid placement not falling within these exemptions under the Act is that the student is deemed to be an employee and is legally entitled to at least the minimum wage.
Please note we will not advertise unpaid internships, unless the internship is undertaken as a Work Integrated Learning activity, vocational placement or is classified as voluntary work in a registered non-profit organisation.

RMIT Careers and Employability will not advertise:
- positions paid by commission
- positions that are not genuine employment opportunities
- a role in a tobacco company
- placements which require potential applicants to pay for the placement, whether the work is paid or voluntary
- positions with payment by profit share
- positions that offer less than award wages
- casual or part-time positions that do not display hourly rate of pay or relevant award/job classification
- positions that offer any sort of 'board in exchange' arrangement where the student receives accommodation as payment for work performed
- positions that do not offer a genuine employment opportunity or those that require applicants to register with an organisation for possible opportunities
- independent contracting arrangements (self-employment) where students need an ABN
- positions lodged by a registered business offering 'cash' or 'cash in hand'
- positions offering payment by "piece rates" i.e. where payment is per product produced, per delivery, per sale made, etc.
- business opportunities and franchise ownership opportunities
- pyramid schemes
- work involving any unpaid training/ trial periods, or reduced pay for training/ trial periods, except where a federal or state award makes allowances for such arrangements
- work involving any illegal activity or that may pose a serious risk to workers
- any work which requires the employee to purchase a product or service, or requires an application fee, registration fee, security deposit or similar as a condition of employment
- unpaid internships - unless the internship is undertaken as a Work Integrated Learning activity, vocational placement or is classified as voluntary work in a registered non-profit organisation
- unpaid or volunteer positions where the advertiser is a for-profit of private enterprise. Volunteer positions are only accepted from non-profit organisations, or where they are associated with non-profit events, or where they constitute a component of a formal academic program
Use of Data
RMIT University may use employers’ information provided to Careers and Employability by advertisers to:
- Update them about CareerHub
- Clarify job details as necessary
- Alert them to other services to facilitate recruitment
- Send career-related/employment notices
- Undertake labour market research
- Assist in managing the CareerHub service
- Liaise with the University and its students
- Conduct syndicated or sponsored research on behalf of or in the direct interest of the University’s strategic purposes
